Final products...

This is my first final design for my collection of boys t-shirts.

I used a plain white cotton t-shirt as I think this is the best fabric to use for children. I used digital print for the design and used wonder webb to attach in to my t-shirt. I love the contrast of the plain white t-shirt against the dark design. I used the metallic thread that I sampled with to create small hand stitch squares. I tried not to add to much to the sample as I didnt want to over do it and make it to busy. The embellishments I sampled with I used on this final piece and considered placement very carefully. I used 3 of the silver embellishments on the opposite side of my hand stitching. I think the embellishments work fantastic and really bring the whole design together even though they are made for leather I feel my thinking outside the box has paid off as I think this final sample is one of my best pieces of work so far. The colour palette and careful placement consideration is to a professional standard of work and my main consern was making sure my final designs were fit for purpose which I feel I have defiantly achieved with this piece of work.

This is my second final design which is another t-shirt for boys. I died a plain white cotton t-shirt to this pale grey colour using procium dye. The design which is a digital print again I attached to the t-shirt using wonder webb. I used the metallic thread again and hand stitched this unique pattern which I got the idea from my previous sample work. The time and consideration I have put into this collection of clothing I feel you can see from the final products. I wanted to create a collection which is fresh and modern and I feel I have most defiantly achieved this goal. I wanted to create work that was progressive and to a higher standard of professionalism than in previous designs. I feel this aim has been achieved and i'm very proud of the outcomes of my final collection. The end result has been very rewarding. I hope my hard work and determination will be recognised during the final show of my work.

This is my third piece of a four piece t-shirt collection. The top image is applique' and hand stitch work with embellishment running up the left hand side of the t-shirt. I left this t-shirt again plain white as there is quite a lot of delicate hand stitch work I feel wouldn't been seen if the t-shirt wasn't plain white. I created two mirror images of the same design and sewed into them using the metallic thread I have used for both other t-shirts to keep it a running theme through my collection of designs. I really like the unique hand stitch I have used and feel its very fit for purpose and appropriate for the market place. I feel there was a gap in the market for new contemporary boys wear even in high end fashion. I think I have filled this niche in the market with my on trend collection of t-shirts. Its something which I would have never imagined designing at the start of this project but I have learnt so much from the beginning of my research all the way through to my final products. I feel the inspiration I have gained from relevant research and design development will help me through my third year of this art and design course. My collection of final t-shirts shows knowledge and understanding that I have realised commercially viable art and design products to a standard required for practice. I plan to show my work and achievements through a professional display of work alongside the other student's final major projects.

samples....

I was trying out a different brighter metallic thread for this sample and I defiantly think this is the thread I will use for my final t-shirts its effective and very eye catching. I think this type of texture and stitch will be appealing to a child as its bright but also contemporary. This sort of hand stitch is something I wouldn't usually use which is why it is perfect for my finals I wanted to step outside my comfort zone for this project and try something different. I am really pleased with the design development and how much it has come on since I first started sampling. This design looks professional and the placement is thoughtful. The contrast between the metallic thread and the dark fabric work very well alongside each other.
I tried out the same style stitch using a blue thread against the dark fabric which I feel doesn't look as fresh and professional as the metallic thread. I'm pleased I tried out a lot of different colours alongside different techniques and processes throughout my sample work which has helped me define what I want to use for my final products. I think for this product I have looked at so many different techniques which I could use and can see what works well and what isn't suitable for the market place and the gap in the market in which I feel my designs can fill. I want to show what I have learnt throughout this 2 year course and how much I have achieved through in depth research into the market place alongside thorough understanding of art and design in terms of purpose.
This sample was a heat transfer print on plain white fabric. I decided to add some hand stitch and metallic thread. I used small beads with longer black beads to embellish into the sample. I really like the bronze coloured beads on this sample they stand out and contrast with the plain print. I think adding bigger black beads works very with and brings the sample together. I think this kind of embellishment would be to feminine to be used for my clothing collection.
This was one of my favourite samples I liked the plain background with the dark applique and metallic thread. Its eye catching and different. I plan to take this sample into my final collection developing the stitch slightly and maybe adding some embellishments which I have looked at. The small pieces of leather look really effective. I was trying out different stitch techniques to see what would be suitable for my final piece of work. I dont think the French knots work wel and again are to feminine for a boys clothing range.

more samples for FMP....

I was trying out different blue fabrics as this is one of the colours i'm using for my colour palette.  I dont particularly like the fabric but I do like the pale blue/duck egg blue. I had some circle cardboard cut outs which I thought would be something good to stitch around for a sample. Again I was trying new techniques and methods and trying to find what works best for the type of product I am planning to design. I think I should have used a different colour thread to stitch with to make it eye catching as this is what children are drawn to. I dont think this sample is suitable for the designs I am going to make.

This is one of my original digital prints It wasnt the colours I liked and thought it was to rough and not up to a professional standard for t-shirts. I decided to applique' with it using small parts of grey fabric and black leather pieces. I stitched around the fabrics using a contrasting blue. I feel the stitch and colours work really well together and could work very well for my final designs if I carefully consider placement and stitch. I was trying out different kinds of embellishments and thought the buttons and the colours of the fabric sit well together. This kind of embellishment is to feminine for boys clothing and has been used so many times before I want to think of something which isnt usually used .
My previous sample I wasn't very happy with the colour of the fabric so I have put my design into photoshop and changed the colours to suit my colour palette. I used a metallic stitch which I absolutely love and think this is the kind of thread I need to be using on my finals. Its eye catching, very on thread but unique and this is type of design that I feel could fill a whole in the market. I added small beads and french knots to this sample but I don't think this looks as good at just the hand embroidery plain stitches. I think this sample would look really good if it was scaled down and  added to the shoulder of the shirt reflecting the same stitch and image on the opposite side. I think a plain white t-shirt would be best suited as this kind of stitch and design is very busy so all the focus would be on the stitch.

Samples for final major project!!!

I started stitching into my print using metallic threads and small beads. I used blue and brown threads as i was still trying to find out what threads work best together. I really like this sample and think its been very sucessful but as im designing t-shirts I dont think the quality of the print is up to a professional standard.

I think the blue and coral work really well on this applique sample something which I have used in previous designs. As I am wanting to create something fresh and new I dont think these colours suitable for my finals. If i was designing for interiors I think this sample would be perfect. Because I am creating boys clothing the colours and fabric again are not suitable for the design I am going to make.
Again this sample was a mixture of pale blue fabric with coral and cream threads. I used french knots to make a unique pattern. Again i really like this sample and if i was making clothing for girls this could be something I could consider adding to my t-shirts but for boys this technique is not suitable and wouldnt be fit for purpose.
I used the heat gun in the print room to disstress the fabric. Something I have not tried out before. I like the sample and think if i was designing interiors like a cushion collection I could use this technique with hand stitch to make it eye catching and modern, but this sort of technique is not suitable for a clothing range for young boys. I like the died blue fabric with the pale and dark blue stitch but I feel this has been used so many times before I wouldn't be pushing myself to try something outside my comfort zone which is exactly what I wanted to do for this Final Major Project.
This is one of my favourite samples I have produced for my collection. I love the placement of the stitch and the colours of the threads I have used. I feel I have come along way since my first initial samples and these new samples are defiantly up to a professional standard. I like the white fabric with the dark grey metallic thread I will defiantly be using this in my final products. I bought some embellishments from a leather shop which I absolutely love. I think it gives such a unique twist to my designs and can really see these working on my final products as they are masculine if used in the correct way with the right stitch work.
